SWAHILI NIGHT AND ZIFF POSTER & WEBSITE LAUNCH

A new feature of ZIFF 2010 program will be the scheduling of Swahili films for most of the viewings on a nominated day during ZIFF 2010. This will give local viewers time to enjoy Swahili language or dubbed films. More important the Program will highlight the growing number of films in Kiswahili that form the bastion of what is usually known as Bongo films. Bongo films is a growing genre of African cinema one closely linked to Nollywood but professing a local Tanzanian flavour.

On 22 March at a venue to be nominated soon, ZIFF will hold its first ZIFF-Bongo film stars dialogue. ZIFF takes special pride in the role it plays in enhancing the status of Tanzanian cinema and this is one strategic move that will work towards developing closer links with an industry wing that has had a bad image for a long time.

50 Bongo film industry producers, distributors and stars will congregate to launch this exciting new cultural initiative.
