Sembene Ousmane Award
The Sembene Ousmane Prize for Development Film awarded at each ZIFF edition enters it’s Third year! Again 16 films will be nominated to compete for this prestigious award that recognises the place and role of the development film in Africa. The Deadline for this competition has been extended to 15th May.
THE COMPETITION
Article 1: ZIFF-SEMBENE is open to all African films and Co-productions between Africans and other nationalities
Article 2: The films submitted must be on social, political and developmental issues with the intention to inform, educate, entertain and importantly, to motivate and stimulate audiences to take action, film that are tools for social change
FILM CRITERIA
The focus of the film selection in 2010 will be on HIV/AIDS, with topics such as gender, the environment and ecology, education and poverty also being accepted. HIV/AIDS poses a threat to people and societies throughout the world, particularly in African countries. Future development in Africa depends to a large extent on whether societies particularly hard hit by social and global constraints manage to cope. 16 films will be nominated to vie for the award. Entry is open to feature and documentary films of at least 20 minutes length. The festival organisers and an international jury will make the final selection.
