The Rice Paddy/La Riziere (82min) China/France

Set in a village in Southern China, the story, told by A Qiu, 12, the elder daughter, follows a family over four seasons. When A Qiu’s grandmother dies, her parents have to leave their jobs on a construction site in the city, come back to live in the village and take care of the rice paddy. A Qiu lives at the crossroads of tradition and the modern world.  She decides to become a writer when she grows up.

This movie is the first to be filmed entirely in the Dong language (a Tibeto-Burman language), with a cast of villagers and non-professional actors.
