Cinetoile

The main objective of the project is to encourage the promotion and distribution of Africa cinema in Africa.

Cinetoile is a project set up by Africalia and funded by the European Commission. It is based on the principle that the prestigious works of Africa cinema status needs to be elevated and that these works need to be recognized as elements of cultural heritage and as tools for dialogue connecting Africa peoples

The specific objectives of Cinetoile are:

  • To increase the capacity of operators in their field in the long term - to enable these operators and partners ,to access an increasingly wider audience ,in particular through their concept of mobile cinema
  • To increase awareness among target audiences who are socially, economically or geographically underprivileged as regards to the articulation and content of films from different Africa countries
  • To maintain awareness among culture professionals of the age old tribulations of distributing Africa films on the continent and the action taken by Cinetoile

Partner networking is the strategic alliance for the development of the Cinetoile project.

Expanding this network will bear witness to the viability of the action in the long term and thereby improve the capacities and structures for promotion and distribution in the practice.

The project partners come from various regions of the continent and actively promote Africa cinema. They complement one another through the diversity of their abilities and their cultures.

The partners join forces to implement a wide-ranging and plan to screen Africa films and together develop a series of activities, semi- nars and meetings

Cinetoile was officially launched during Fespaco 2009 (Pan-Africa Film and Television Festival in Ouagadougou) and is meeting again during ZIFF 2010.
